Today we are starting #FeatureFriday with Osteostrong! Osteostrong is the place to go if you want to improve your bone health in just minutes. Osteostrong in East Liberty is owned and operated by Pamela and Matthew Wolff. I recently stopped by Osteostrong and had the pleasure of speaking with Matthew as well as watching a client session. I even had the pleasure of testing, out the hydromassage table. It was obvious to me that the clients are treated with care and feel empowered throughout their appointment.

When I asked Matt to explain Osteostrong in his own words, he said that Osteostrong, “is a unique concept designed to provide the most profound results in skeletal strength conditioning. By engaging in our system, clients can experience rapid results and increases in; physical strength and power, energy, agility and balance, reduction or elimination of joint and back pain. We use a uniquely designed set of robotic devices along with bio-feedback that safely emulates high-impact forces. It is a well-known principle of human physiology that the human musculoskeletal chain responds to heavy loading or high impact forces by growing new bone and muscle tissue. We also see clients reversing their osteoporosis back to normal. One density. The best part is that people of any age or fitness level can do it!”

The couple discovered Osteostrong when Pamela was diagnosed with Osteopenia. She has a history of Osteoporosis in her family and her beloved Grandmother passed away to soon after complications from hip surgery. Pamela wanted to be proactive in combating her own bone loss. The couple started going to the South Hills location and Matthew said he too felt better. They have been using Osteostrong for 2 years and have both become stronger and their posture is noticeably better. Pamela is looking forward to the next DEXA scan in the fall. Matthew has emphysema and a recent PF test showed improvement in his lung function and his breathing is much better.

Matthew and Pamela bought a franchise license so that they could share this proprietary technology and help people get healthier and stronger. They chose East Liberty in the East Side Bond building on Spirit Street as the location of their business because they feel it is vibrant, active, and overall the best neighborhood for this business. There is parking right in front of the business on Spirit Street and in the garage under the building. Osteostrong joined the chamber in April for chamber events and to become visible in the community. When I asked Matthew why he liked being a member of the chamber, he said, “The chamber is very responsive and always asks what you need.” He laughs and says, “Their events are nice too, very well run and usually include good food.”

Matthew expressed great pride in the other 2 employees that work at Osteostrong. Nate is an exercise science student at Pitt who is one of only five to receive a Nordberg scholarship. Steph is also a certified ‘Buff Bones’ instructor, an exercise program that is safe for people with Osteoporosis. She holds classes at Osteostrong on Mondays for Buff Bones. Osteostrong also hosts various member events in their studio. Recently, the inventor of the technology and the process of osteogenic loading, John Jaquish, PhD gave a presentation to 35 of their members. They have also hosted Tai Chi demonstrations hosted by a great practitioner who is super fun. When I was watching the client experience, the woman expressed great satisfaction with Osteostrong and said she has been using it for about 10 months. She was very open with me, showing me how she used the machines and sharing her stats with me. She was pushing

anywhere from 600 to 1,000 pounds of force or more that seven times her body weight! I also got to test out the hydromassage table. It was a 6 minute massage that pushes hot water on your back at high pressure and at varying speeds. My back felt better for over a week!

So is Osteostrong for you? Matthew says anyone of any age or physical condition can use it! Several younger members who are engineers & nurses came in to improve their posture and to reduce or eliminate neck and back pain. One young man remarked that he’s an inch taller because of his improved posture! College students like the University of Pittsburgh Army Rangers came in to increase strength and endurance. All of the fourteen Rangers, both men and women improved in their strength benchmarks and as a team they placed 5th in a competition of 45 other ROTC groups at Fort Dix, NJ. Osteostrong is also helpful for pre- surgery prep and strength building prior to joint replacement to strengthen the bones to accept the new hardware and post surgery recovery to build bone and regain strength. If you have been cleared for exercise then you can do Osteostrong. They have a number of customers who are cancer survivors. The medicines for cancer can cause bone loss and sap the strength in their bodies, some recovering patients are weak, may not be eating well and do not have the energy to go to the gym.

Your appointment at Osteostrong will be as little as 10 minutes! You don’t have to wear workout clothes either and you won’t be tired, sweaty or sore. Matthew and Pam once did a session on their way to the opera! Your time on each machine lasts about 1 - 2 minutes and you can finish with the hydromassage. Call today and start with a free first session!
