    Penn Ave Artist in Residency Our tribute to local jazz legends continues with a celebration the life and legacy of legendary vocalist and guitarist, George Benson. Award-winning percussionist and icon, Roger Humphries and the RH Factor traverse audiences through a musical journey in preservation of the rich jazz histories of Pittsburgh. Born and raised in the Hill-district of Pittsburgh, Benson has often been referred to as a child prodigy and first came to prominence in the 1960s, playing soul jazz with Jack McDuff and others. Benson launched a successful solo career, becoming most known for his alternating practices between jazz, pop, R&B, and scat singing helping to shape today’s diverse sounds in music.

    Presented in Partnership with Kente Arts Alliance Brown Butterfly is a multi-media work performed by The Craig Harris Septet, and is based around the movements of Legendary Boxer; Muhammad Ali. Lead by Craig Harris, an acclaimed jazz trombonist and composer who has been a major figure in the jazz avant-garde movement. Harris has performed with a veritable “Who’s Who” of progressive jazz’ most important figures – his own projects displayed both a unique sense of concept and a total command of the sweeping expanse of African-American musical expression.

  • Albright United Methodist Church (ELVHS)

    Members of Friends of Albright, a group formed to save the Bloomfield church from demolition, will present an illustrated talk about the history of the congregation and its distinctive 1906 Richardsonian Romanesque stone building, the campaign to protect it through historic designation, and what the future may hold. The church, designed by Pittsburgh architect Chancey W. Hodgdon and now closed, is located at 486 S. Graham St. It is owned by the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church, which intends to sell it to a developer with plans to demolish.
